Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, gentle treatment designed to hydrate, cleanse, and support your digestive system . Also known as a colon cleanse, colon hydrotherapy can be hugely beneficial in restoring your gut health to its natural balance.
If you’ve heard about colonics but are unsure on how colon hydrotherapy works or the efficacy of the procedure – you’re not alone. Colon cleansing is not new; but it is becoming more popular as more people look beyond traditional treatments for gastrointestinal issues and embrace a more holistic approach to balance and restore the body’s inner ecosystem.
During a colon hydrotherapy session, the individual lies comfortably on a treatment table, where a small, disposable speculum is gently inserted into the rectum. Warm, filtered water is then introduced into the tube (and colon), carefully regulated in temperature to ensure it is comfortable. The water circulates throughout the colon, softening and loosening accumulated waste, debris, and toxins. As the water is expelled, the loosened waste is naturally released from the body. This process can be repeated several times during the session to ensure thorough cleansing. After the treatment, individuals typically feel lighter, more energised, and experience improved digestion and overall gut health.
There are three different types of colonic irrigation: the closed method, the open method, and gravity colonics. At KUYU Colonics, we specialise in the closed-method colon hydrotherapy for a more controlled and comfortable experience.
Closed-method hydrotherapy is when a colonic is performed with the support of a professionally trained therapist. Closed-method irrigation will involve a certified therapist administering the procedure to facilitate the infusion of the water into the colon, and the removal of waste. The distinction in closed-method is that the entire procedure is controlled and monitored by the therapist who is able to provide guidance and support, as well as discreet and hygienic removal of the waste. The therapist has the ability to adjust the temperature and pressure of the fluids, ensuring comfort throughout the procedure.

Closed-method colon hydrotherapy is a safe and effective treatment when performed by a trained and certified professional. This method uses a controlled system, ensuring that warm, filtered water is gently introduced into the colon and released in a hygienic and comfortable manner.
The process is non-invasive and designed to cleanse the colon without causing harm or discomfort. Additionally, the treatment is closely monitored by a trained therapist throughout the session to ensure proper water pressure and comfort levels, making it a safe option for individuals looking to support their digestive health.
Yes – the benefits of colon hydrotherapy go well beyond clearing out the colon. Colonics have been shown to improve digestive function, increase energy and concentration, detoxify the liver, assist in weight management, improve bloating, and generally relieve constipation.
While the benefits of colon hydrotherapy are plentiful – not everyone is a suitable candidate for the treatment.
Common contraindications include, but are not limited to Crohn’s disease in inflammatory or haemorrhagic phases, pregnancy, active or haemorrhagic ulcerative colitis, severe haemorrhoids or severe bleeding, rectal bleeding other than mild haemorrhoids, diverticulitis, renal disease or renal failure, abdominal or inguinal hernia, gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, abdominal, pelvic or colon surgery within the last 12 months, colostomy, intracranial hypertension, congestive heart failure, recent heart attack or cardiac surgery, cirrhosis of the liver, severe anaemia, aneurysms, active cancer or undergoing cancer treatments affecting the digestive system, kidney dialysis, anal fissures or fistulas, seizures or epilepsy, and those on medications or conditions that may weaken the intestinal walls.
If you’re not sure – always consult with a healthcare provider to determine if colon hydrotherapy is safe for you.
Great question! The effects of colon hydrotherapy can vary depending on each individual’s response during the treatment. After your session, we recommend a short rest period to allow your body to recover. While the treatment itself is not painful or difficult to manage—many clients find it quite relaxing—it’s important to take time to settle afterward and start rehydrating. We offer a digestive support drink at the studio to help with this process.
Based on your response, we might suggest a series of colonics, which can be spaced closely together or further apart depending on how your body responds and the results you’re looking to achieve.
After your colonic, you can typically resume normal activities. It’s essential to listen to your body—while some people experience mild stomach rumbling, others feel better than ever. Staying hydrated, eating light, nourishing meals, and avoiding alcohol and caffeine are key to supporting your body post-treatment.
